Project Overview
MED's involvement in the American University of Malta's University Campus in Bormla was a transformative journey. This project focused on repurposing and enhancing the historical fabric of the location to create contemporary educational facilities.
MED is proud to have contributed to the creation of this educational hub, uniting the heritage of the past with the aspirations of the future.
Within this endeavor, MED provided crucial services, Contract, Project & Construction Management ensuring the project's success.
The approach centered on respecting the site's historical significance while adapting it for modern educational needs. The original British Building, designed by William Scamp in 1841-1844, and the Knights Building, commissioned by GM Adrien Wignacourt in 1689, are cherished elements of the Three Cities' rich history.
In this project, the buildings' horizontal character and their historic interiors are preserved while carefully designed extensions and embellishments were introduced to accommodate the new university uses.
