Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Ian Borg, Minister for Tourism Konrad Mizzi and Parliamentary Secretary for Planning and the Property Market Chris Agius presided over the signing of an MOU between the Building Industry Consultative Council (BICC), the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA), the two ministries and the Malta Developers Association (MDA) – which MOU will lead to the Considerate Construction Scheme. This scheme will have five main objectives and 15 different roles. To this end, a number of stakeholders are also being consulted, including the Chamber of Commerce, GRTU, MHRA, Kamra tal-Periti, Kamra tal-In?iniera and the Paceville Town Centre Management Committee.
The aim of this scheme is to develop an industry which creates less inconveniences for residents and businesses in areas were construction is underway, while better protecting workers on site and taking care of the surrounding environment. References were also made to the process started last year towards the setting up of the Malta Construction and Building Authority (MCBA) for clearer and more coherent legislation and integrated powers under one authority for better management of the industry.
